China Trip December 2006-Hangzhou, Xitang and Shanghai

The West Lake is located in Hangzhou, which is in the Zhejiang Province. It was really pretty when we went, not too cold. We rode on a boat across the lake, and I got to see an image that is printed on the back of the 1 yuan note (so if you are ever looking at a 1 yuan bill, take a peek and you will see the scenery from the West Lake).
Leifeng Pagoda off of the West Lake- it was a little hazy that day but I thought this silhouette was pretty.

Here we are in Xitang, which is also another city that has rivers running through it and bridges connecting different parts of the city. The area where we are standing is where Tom Cruise ran through the streets in Mission Impossible III (at the very beginning of the movie).

Look at that grin! Ok, so I admit it...we stopped in McDonalds a few times. Mainly because Betty wanted her hot fudge sundaes (super cheap). I think we had hot fudge sundaes at least 2-3 times in that less than 2 week period. I did have a 巨无霸. (ju mu ba), aka a Big Mac. Adam had a good laugh looking at the menu, which included a green bean pie, in addition to the traditional apple pie found in the US.

A woman washing her clothing in the river. I didn't tell her that someone dumped their dirty water into the river just upstream from here, though I am sure that is something they are aware of.

A view of the busy shopping area in Shanghai. We didn't do much shopping, other than going to the DVD shop. We did have a great bookstore close by in Hangzhou, so that is where we bought most of our books and CDs.

Adam is pointing at the "Seafood Supreme" pizza option available at the upscale Pizza Hut.

Yay, the Friendlies characters for the Beijing Olympics. Their names are Beibei (贝贝), Jingjing (晶晶), Huanhuan (欢欢), Yingying (迎迎), and Nini (妮妮). The first part of their names, when put together, translate (though tones and characters are different) into Beijing Welcomes You. Cute huh?
